本书属于ESP系列教材。本教材以英语为语言媒介,以商务知识为核心,强调语言能力与商务知识的结合,旨在培养学生掌握商务英语基本知识,同时在典型商务情境中完成沟通和交流,提高商务应用能力。教材内容紧密围绕各项商务话题,模拟商务交际环境,选取商务领域和活动的12个典型话题:公司简介、产品和服务、营销、广告、订单、公司业绩、文化、职业发展、商务旅游和会议、竞争、商务道德和热点,涵盖商务英语听力、口语、阅读和写作等技能训练和案例分析,同时引导学生了解商务领域的相关礼仪。本教材在主题和选材上,突出真实性、实用性和新颖性的特点。在编写上,强调实用性、针对性、知识性、交际性和科学性五个原则。
教育部新版《大学英语教学指南》提出,大学英语教学的主要内容可分为通用英语、专门用途英语和跨文化交际三个部分,由此形成相应的三大类课程。专门用途英语(English for Specific Purposes,简称ESP)以英语使用领域为指向,以增强学生运用英语进行专业和学术交流、从事工作的能力,提升学生学术和职业素养为目的。商务英语属于专门用途英语课程。伴随着全球经济一体化和我国国际化的进程,商务英语在涉外商务活动日益频繁的今天,使用范围越来越广,应用性也越来越强。

本教材在主题和选材上,突出真实性、新颖性和实用性的特点。本教材绝大部分材料来自国外权威网站和杂志,语言地道,原汁原味,话题新颖,内容实用。教材在编写上,强调知识性、交际性、应用性和科学性四个原则。每个单元由导人、听力、阅读、口语、表达、写作和礼仪七个部分组成,各部分围绕单元话题展开,内容丰富,衔接自然,讲练结合。
本书编写团队成员从事大学英语和商务英语教学多年,教研经验丰富,教学效果突出。主编主持的“基于CBI理论的大学生英语高阶课程体系构建与实践”成果获得湖南省高等教育教学成果奖一等奖。马婧编写第一和第二单元,成兆英编写第三和第四单元,曹鑫编写第五和第十单元,李瑶编写第六和第八单元,谢斌编写第七和第九单元,张莉编写第十一单元,熊爱平编写第十二单元。李瑶和尹华对所有单元进行了审核,提出了修改建议,同时对多个单元进行了较大修改和增补。郑为民、张嘉成分别审读和校对了部分单元内容。
本书中的听说内容已被录制成音频,并在网上提供听说音频、听力原文、答案和剑桥商务英语BEC中级真题,可供学生学习。
本书适用于普通高校和高职高专开设商务英语课程教学使用,同时也适用于社会上对商务英语学习有需求的各类人员。根据不同情况和要求,建议实施翻转课程教学,课时为32学时或者48学时,每单元2~4学时。
